Creating a perfect website is very subjective matter. People has their own idea of “perfect”. You do what you like, but make sure avoid something you should too. Here are 5 website mistakes we often see and it doesn’t hurt you to know about too.
1, Content, content and more content
Search engine like content with keywords, but user like a more constructive content. Make sure your website is nicely constructed and not crowded with words and images. Nobody want to use the CTRL+F if not necessary. Deliver your content right in their face.
2, Flash this, blink that, float up and down those
Enough! Users are on your website for something, they expect to read, not sight seeing. Flash can create cool animation, but don’t over using that. Some simple animation can be done with CSS too if you’re wondering. Most of all, readability we are talking about.
3, Do it or get out!
No no no. Do not force user to do something, for example Sign up form. It is your responsible to make sure your user sign up. It is your content, idea that make a user sign up. Forcing them to sign up to whatever you’re offering is a big no-no.
4, No return error page
When users come to a content that you accidentally deleted or they typed the wrong URL. Make sure to bring them back, anywhere! Take care of your users when they are on your door step. A little care can do a lot different.
5, See THIS! See THAT! See HERE!
A lot of website earn money from advertisement. But over placing advertisement is a bad bad idea. That’s why Google Adsense allow a limited number of their ads on a page. This is going to confuse your users, and beside, Javascript load v e r y s l o w . . .
There are of course a lot more than just 5 mistakes. But one thing to keep in mind when you wanted to avoid a mistake – Simple is the ultimate sophistication – by Leonardo Da Vinci.
